Saffron holds antioxydant properties and is ideal to fight stress and anxiety. It has positive effects on memory and learning ability. Its notoriety is certainly due to its unbiased value in cooking.
Over a 20-day period between October and November, Melagrani pick saffron flowers by hand while the petals are still closed to avoid damaging the active ingredients present in the stigmas. Those are immediately separated from the flower and desiccated.
At the end of each vegetative cycle, Melagrani replants the best bulbs so to increase the properties of the saffron to be produced the following year.
With the initiative “Io Raccolgo” (I do the harvest), between October and November, Melagrani gives saffron lovers the opportunity to take part in the harvesting and to taste dishes prepared with this flavourful and precious gift of nature.
